About GRAMA DEEP

For development, every village should come together like a family.

Gramadeep, on the auspicious day of 14th July 2015, celebrated the launch of a noble initiative for villages to come together as a family and join hands for development and clean and green environment with biodiversity protection. The first step was made at Kovvali village (Denduluru Block, then West Godavari district and now the Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh, India) irrespective of caste, religion, political and faction groups. It pledged to keep the village first and to act as a facilitator for village development connecting the villagers settled in and outside the village. This non-profit organization, registered as a charitable trust in 2018 though initially started its focus on making Kovvali, a model village by bringing the community together and nurturing change-agents for it's overall development; it got spread to other rural and urban areas in Eluru district and had taken a variety of multiple projects. The existing donors, charitable institutions; also, the concerned government departments, schools, colleges, children, women, businessmen, villagers with patriotic spirit in the village and villagers living elsewhere became active stakeholders to realize the vision of GramaDeep Trust. Grama Deep also intervenes and facilitates development in other villages of the district.

    • WHAT WE ARE DOING?

We are reducing the carbon footprint by increasing the green cover by planting thousands of trees, improving sanitation and beautifying the villages by transforming the dirty spaces in to clean and green spaces of utility and managing solid waste with the support and participation of community. We endeavor to protect the waterbodies and inspire community to collectively take responsibility for their protection. Through several awareness initiatives, we sensitize community, encourage citizen participation and nurture changemakers to advocate more steps towards environment conservation and biodiversity protection. Our child and women empowerment wings, Bala Grama Deep & Mahila Grama Deep are gearing ahead with multiple initiatives while also endeavoring towards preservation of traditional knowledge, village culture and traditions. We partner with government departments to support them to reach their objectives and in sensitizing community to conserve environment by increasing plantation, protection of biodiversity and work against the use of single use plastic, while promoting safe water and healthy life through chemical free natural farming techniques and alternative medicine. We also educate about citizens' rights, their empowerment, right to quality life through healthy environment, safe water and public health, and the need for good governance and effective rule of law.

WHAT the travellers to our village say:

My trip to Kovvali village was like revisiting my childhood and introducing the village life to my young daughter. My childhood memories are infused with the rich tapestry of village life revolving around the farming activities - from tilling the land,to transplanting the rice, and looking at the caravan of bullock carts bringing home the harvested rice and dry grass.

Before flying down to Vijayawada, I had a certain imagination of a friend's farm in Kovvali village. Coming from New Delhi, trying to escape the madness and chaos of the capital city, I was hoping to catch with my friend of many years and if possible snatch few moments of quiet and peace.
